Temporary/Anonymous Access Accounts
Sage Bionetworks no longer provides temporary or anonymous access accounts to controlled-access data for scholarly journal reviewers.
Controlled-access protocols exist to protect participant privacy, respect data use limitations, and comply with federal regulations governing bulk human genomic and health data. Providing unvetted or anonymous access undermines Data Use Agreements (DUAs) and creates significant regulatory and organizational compliance risks.
Recommended Data Availability & Access Instructions for Reviewers
If you are submitting a manuscript that utilizes or generates controlled-access data hosted on the AD Knowledge Portal (Synapse):
Please do not request temporary login credentials for journal editors or reviewers.
Instead, include clear instructions in your manuscript’s Data Availability Statement explaining how reviewers and readers can apply for access through our standard data governance process.
If a reviewer requires immediate validation of your findings during peer review without applying for full controlled access, we recommend providing derived summary data, aggregate tables, or code outputs within your manuscript’s supplementary materials.
We recommend providing the Data Availability Statement as described in Acknowledge Data with the addition of the following statement:
To request access, all users (including peer reviewers) must create a Synapse account and submit a Data Use Certificate (DUC) application through the AD Knowledge Portal access request workflow described in the AD Knowledge Portal Help Docs: Access Data (https://help.adknowledgeportal.org/apd/access-data). Data access is granted upon approval by the Data Access Committee. Non-controlled summary statistics and analytical code used in this study are available in the Supplementary Information at [LINK].
