TERRA

Using Terra.bio with the AD Knowledge Portal

Overview
Terra.bio is a cloud-based data analysis platform that enables users to create workspaces and analyze data from multiple studies and datasets. Data collected in the AD Knowledge Portal (ADKP) can be exported directly into a Terra.bio workspace for analysis.

Prerequisites

  • AD Knowledge Portal Account:

    • Sign up for an account at the AD Knowledge Portal by accessing the sign in link and clicking create an account now. Full instructions can be found here.

    • Once your account is created, take the quiz to become certified to download data.

  • Terra.bio Workspace:

    • Have an existing workspace in Terra.bio that you can export to.

    • Purchase compute power through your Terra account following Terra’s Get Started instructions.

      • To try out Terra, you can receive a $300 Google credit here.

Step 1: Obtain Access to AD Knowledge Portal Data

  1. Anyone can browse the AD Knowledge Portal without registration.

  2. To download or export data, create a free Synapse account.

  3. While many studies contain controlled-access data, some non-human model data in ADKP is open for use with a Synapse account. For controlled-access data, you must submit an electronic data access request, including a Data Use Certificate (DUC) as indicated in the Access Request instructions.

Step 2: Get Access to Terra.bio

  1. Visit Terra.bio to learn more about the platform and available resources.

  2. Sign up and create your Terra workspace.

  3. You will need to add payment information for Terra workspaces (either individually, through your institution, or using the $300 Google credit offered by Terra).

Step 3: Export Data to Your Terra Workspace

  1. In the AD Knowledge Portal, navigate to a study details page.

  2. Scroll to the Files List view.

  3. Check the box next to the metadata or data files you want to export.

  4. Select “Send All Results to Analysis Platform.”

  5. Follow the on-screen workflow to:

    • Choose Terra.bio as your analysis platform.

    • Select your target workspace in Terra.

Once complete, your selected files will be available in your Terra workspace for full analysis functionality. Visit the Terra website for details navigating the Terra resources and workspace.

Disclaimer

Users must comply with the Data Use Conditions and any other applicable terms of both the AD Knowledge Portal and Terra.bio. Accessing and using controlled data requires adherence to all approved data use agreements and institutional policies.
